      Do strength training with escalating weight on your lower body. I would suggest squats, calf raises, and leg lifts. If you don't have access to a weight room, you can buy a set of hand weights or use heavy objects around the house. On your upper body do exercises using low weight and many repetitions. Again, use hand weights or heavy objects and lift them above your head, do curls, flys, and crunches. Find out how much time you can commit to the workout each day and either do both sets of exercises or alternate them. If you have the time, supplement the strength training with cardio such as jogging. You should start to see results after a month. Also, cut down on sugary liquids, this is the easiest way for most people to limit their calories during the day.

      That's a toughie. Unfotunately, I think most people are "set" to have a particular body shape. You sound fine, though, and you're only 16 and your body is STILL DEVELOPING. There's really no way to make yor hips grow without gaining weight pretty much all over. You could try to work at your waist to give a bigger hips illusion, but you have a very small waist anyway.

      Let go of this idea of looking like a "board". In many years to come you'll be wishing you looked like a "board"!

      Ok, i hear that alot.The bad news is that if your hips are wide, part of that is a function of your bone structure: wider pelvis, wider hips. The good news is that if you fall into that category, you probably tend to be "pear"-shaped, as opposed to being "apple"-shaped. That means you store fat on your hips rather than around your waist. You will have lower risk for heart disease, although it is frustrating buying clothes.

      You can't "spot"-reduce, so adopt a comprehensive exercise program to lower your overall body fat and increase the amount of lean muscle you carry on your frame. Work up to doing aerobic exercise three to five times a week for 30-45 minutes each time. You'll burn more calories the longer you spend exercising, so walk, don't run, to extend your exercise time. Cycling and in-line skating are other great ways to burn calories and have fun too.

      Sadly you can't make your hips bigger, perhaps if you accentuate your waist more it could achieve the look you want.

      As for a smaller waist try doing exercises that work on your core area, not crunches/sit ups etc, side raises are good.

      Lie on your side, both legs straight. The arm that is underneath you should cross over your chest to support, then the other arm should be gently placed at the side of your head, bent at the elbow. slowly lift both legs towards the ceiling and lift your top half also so that the elbow and your legs are moving towards each other. you should feel a stretch down your side. then lower your legs and torso again. Repeat maybe starting at 10 reps, then do the other side.

      This exercise is one I got from my Womens Health magazine. Very good, but a bit tricky to master at first. I hope this is helpful to you

      If you have a bicycle, the gears on the hardest setting to pedal and ride it everywhere.

      Find an amount of weight that feels just a little heavy for you and follow this routine:
      Workout A:
      Deep (Butt below parallel) Squats
      1 set 5 reps No weight
      1 sets 5 reps 50% weight
      2 sets 5 reps 100% of the weight

      Backraises
      3 sets 10 reps un-weighted

      Workout B:
      Deep squats
      3 sets 10 reps un-weighted

      Lunges
      3 sets 5 reps un-weighted

      Alternate every other day (EX: Monday – workout A, Wednesday - workout B, Friday - workout A. Next Week: Monday - workout B, Wednesday – workout A, Friday – workout A. Etc.) Add about 5 lbs to your squat each week, and 5 lbs to your lunges each week, until you cant complete the rep then scale it back and use the previous weight as your max.

      Keep drinking plenty of milk and following that and soon you should maximize your butt’s size and roundness.

      try wearing fuller skirts (with ruffles or layers) that end at about knee length -- they will add volume to your hips and butt. also, try wearing a halter top that has a v-cut -- this will visibly decrease your breasts and shoulders, making your body look more proportional. in general, to add volume to your lower half, stay away from really form-fitting jeans (especially skinny jeans, since those are NOTORIOUS for making your top half look larger than your bottom half, which is exactly what you are trying to conceal rather than accentuate)

      Exercise-wise, you could try going to the gym and lift some weights, making sure to focus a lot on machines which work out your glutes (butt muscles), hamstrings, and quadriceps. having some muscle there will give you the curves you want.

      You realize that this is exactly the OPPOSITE of what any right-minded woman would want... a fat @$$. But it's really easy... all you have to do is follow the strict diet of McDonald's and oreos, and switch your regular milk to half n' half. Also, sit around all day and skip gym class.

      I think what you mean to say is that you want a curvier figure. And that just comes with time an maturity. You're only 17. You aren't going to be able to completely change your bone-structure in two months... doesn't matter WHAT crazy diet or exercise program.

      Running will NOT shrink your hips. Hips are bone, the outline of you body. Running can shrink your waist therefore you can get the "hourglass" shape.

      Here are some great butt exercises which will tone and tighten your rear end. The heavier you increase the weight used, the more muscle you will add to your butt. If you want a thick and tight rear end, focus on doing 6-8 reps per set and try use more weight, especially on the barbell squats. You can try squats, full squats, lunges, jumping lunges w/ dumbells, and leg kicks to make your butt toner.

      It depends on the kind of riding you do. For what you described, it might actually make them smaller because you'll be using the fat in your legs.
      If you train harder doing long distance at a high average speed (like road cycling), it will make them slightly larger and ripped. And if you do short distance sprints where you use all your energy, it will make them very large.
      If you want to reduce the size of your legs, pedal at a high cadence with little effort. Find a good balance where you're not killing yourself, but you're still doing something.

Will bellydancing make my hips and lower back bigger? I really don't want it to, I just wanted some fun exercise. Help!!!!

      I suppose that it's possible because those are the muscles primarily being worked. It's also your abs.

      Belly dancing is difficult. There is a long learning curve. You might want to take it easy so you don't hurt yourself. There is a huge difference between a good sore and a bad sore. I don't know how much you know about exercise so I'm just laying what I know out there.

      I don't think you would necessarily want to make belly dancing your primary work out choice but I think that's true of almost any exercise. I like variety myself. I don't see that doing belly dancing one to three times a week would result in having bigger hips and bigger back.

      I recommend pilates which will help you with belly dancing and probably make it more enjoyable.

    What are some exercises I can do to help me loose 3in off my hips and make my thighs leaner?
    I need to loose 3 inches off my hips in the next 3 months, as well as make my thighs leaner. I have an athletic build... my thighs are rather muscular, so I would like to know of some exercises that will NOT make them any bigger... anybody know of a good workout that will take no longer than 30-45min a day?     Does anyone know what kind exercise to make a butt and legs smaller?
    Before I got pregnant, I have a perfect body.... but after having 1st baby, My butt and my legs getting bigger and it's not a propotional with my body. Now, I have a hard time to find clothes especially jeans, short, skirt, etc cause i still have a small hips and big butt and thighes. I cut down the junk foods already and I swim 3-4 times a week but it's still doesn't work. I can't lose my weight. My weight is still the same or gain weight. Does anyone knows what kind of exercise to make them smaller? Now, I'm kind of depresing cause of them and my weight.... Please help anyone.....

      The way to lose weight is to burn off more calories than you consume. Exercise more - Eat less, it's as simple as that. You've already cut down on the junk food so that's a good start. Maybe you need to start doing more cardio (biking, jogging, aerobics, etc.)

    Does exercising really make your butt bigger?
    My sister has been exercising a lot hoping her butt will get bigger and more round. She is only 15 and is pretty petite. Her waist measures 29 inches and hips 33 inches. She didn't exactly get the booty genes in the family (ha ha). Is it possible to get a bigger butt with exercising or any other way? Surgery is not an option.

    • ANSWER:
      It depends on the exercise! The main butt muscle is the gluteus maximus, a very large muscle that allows us to stand upright. By doing either squats with weights OR better yet, bicycling (either regular or stationary), her "glutes" WILL enlarge, causing more definition...and probably increase in size. To see the results, look up some pictures of bike racers.

      By contrast, tell her NOT to run, as they usually get flat butts.

      Notice the large thighs, however. This is also characteristic of cyclists. You can counteract this with swimming, x-c skiing and making sure to stretch after cycling.

    Hi, I am 5'3 and 111 pounds, I'm pretty thin, BUT my thighs and hips are bigger than the rest of my body, and it's not that I just have big hips! I know that there's FAT there, are there any exercises that target your hips and inner/outer thighs?

    • ANSWER:
      jogging is an excellent exercise because it let you lose weight
      evenly throughout your whole body. If you want to lose weight in
      specific areas, you should target them with exercises. If they are
      your problem areas, they will be very difficult to tone. You will have
      to work double on them. The best approach is this:
      1. Lower/control your daily calorie intake (control for normal
      weight, lower for overweight).
      2. Run/jog to lower your overall body fat percentage.
      3. Target your problem areas with exercises.
      Side Lunge Slide
      Stand with feet hip-width apart, left foot resting on a paper plate.
      Bend the right leg while sliding the left foot to the side, torso
      upright and abs in. Slowly slide left foot back to starting position,
      repeating 8-12 times. Switch legs and repeat for 2-3 sets.

      Lunge Slide
      Stand with feet hip-width apart, left foot resting on a paper plate.
      Bend the right leg while sliding the left foot back into a lunge
      position, keeping the right knee behind the toe, torso upright and abs
      in. Slowly slide left foot back to starting position and repeat 8-12
      times. Switch legs and repeat on each leg for 2-3 sets.

      Front One-Legged Squat
      Stand on a step or small platform. Lift left leg out in front of step
      and bend the right leg, bringing the toe of the left foot to the
      floor. Touch the floor lightly and keep the knee of the bent leg in
      line with toes. Straighten the right leg and repeat 8-12 times. Switch
      legs and repeat for 2-3 sets.

      Chair Squat
      Stand in front of a chair with feet hip-width apart, abs in and torso
      straight. Slowly bend your knees and lower and until you're almost
      touching your butt to the chair. Hold for 2-3 seconds, knees behind
      the toes, and straighten. Repeat for 12-16 reps, 2-3 sets.

      Heel Drops with Leg Extension
      Stand on step or platform with left leg on the step, right leg
      hanging off the side. Bend the left leg and lower the right foot
      towards the floor (a few inches). Straighten the left leg and bring
      the right leg out to the side, foot flexed, in a leg extension. Repeat
      8-12 times, switch legs for 2-3 sets.

      Hip Extension
      On a flat or inclined step or platform, lie facedown with hips on the
      edge of the step, legs straight out behind you with toes resting
      lightly on the floor. Squeeze the glutes and hamstrings and straighten
      the legs until they are level with the hips. Hold for 2-3 seconds, and
      lower letting toes lightly touch the floor. Repeat for 2-3 sets of
      8-12 repetitions.

    How can I get bigger hips? Do guys find 33" hips a turnoff?
    I am being completely serious, I hate having 33 inch hips, it makes me feel unwomanish in a way. I do eat a lot but the fat goes to my belly instead, which has gone from 25 to 26 inches. I try exercising too, but my hips aren't getting any bigger. I am 17 btw.

      Women should not be judged by their measurements.

      Growth in the muscles of your hips and thighs should be more or less the same as any other muscle group. Squats, hack squats, and leg presses should increase the size. You will need to start with low weights and do high reps (ca 30 or so) at the beginning and work up to doing heavy weights over time. Using resistance which you cannot do at least 6 reps with is more likely to cause injury.

      Using a stair climber should be helpful on many levels.

    does toning ur bum make it bigger?
    I am currently doing lunges, some floor exercises and using an abductor machine to tone my bum. But would these exercises reduce the fat around my gluteal muscles or instead make the muscles bigger...I much prefer the former cos I don't want my bum any bigger.
    I'm already quite skinny and I have relatively big hips for a guy so I don't need to lose weight or start an exercise routine to get rid of fat.

      Unfortunately it's not possible to change your body shape through exercise: you either got it, or you don't. If you're not an hourglass now, you won't ever be an hourglass, so it's pointless to aim for that. I advice you work out what your body shape is and exercise to suit it.
